What Is An Expungement?

An expungement removes all traces of a conviction from your permanent record. It is usually allowable between two and five years after your conviction. Not all offenses are eligible. Expungement depends on what you've been convicted of and whether it is a felony or a disorderly persons or municipal conviction.

Why Would I Want An Expungement?

A criminal record can keep you from things you may want in life. Drug convictions, alcohol convictions or vandalism convictions can reflect poorly on your honesty. They can prevent you from getting certain jobs or even from renting an apartment.

College Students With A Prior Conviction Benefit From Expungement

Prior drug convictions make students ineligible for federal financial aid. Oftentimes, college students would like to expunge their records because they want to work for companies that have contracts with the government. Certain convictions will make you ineligible to work with the government and thus, those companies.
